FCC Looking for Volunteers

While I was waiting to do something today I found an article on Feedr a feed aggregation service for Android. The FCC is looking for 10,000 volunteers to act as test subjects to see if they really are getting what they pay for when it comes to broadband connection speeds. I tested my speed and found out the following for the 6 mps connection speed that I get through ATT.

  • Download speed is 5088 kbps
  • Upload speed is 644 kbps
  • Latency is 24 ms
  • Jitter is 1 ms

Latency is the time it take for data to be sent from your computer to the testing server.

Jitter is the variability in the delay between your computer and the testing server

When I went to ATT’s site they were unable to provide me with the information for even the download speeds and upload speeds for the connection speed I have. Now they do offer a connection speed of 18 mps in a couple of bundle packages with the cheapest one being $147.00 a month.

I plan on calling them in the AM to find out how much it would cost if I were to upgrade my connection speed as well as if it is available with the current bundle that I have and will update this post when I have that information.

I would love to know what your speeds are please leave your info in the comments below.

I did the alternate and got less then the original test.
