Have Bloggers Block? Try a Blog Bank!!

I am participating in The 30 Day Blog Challenge which challenges you to write a post a day for 30 days. Well I got to twittering with Diane Falvey and she made a comment about putting ideas in a bank cause she felt like she was running out of day.So I asked her if I could write a post using her bank idea. She was happy to let me. When she said this I instantly thought of a blog bank.  You use it like you would a job bank for your family or a bank where you keep your money at. Only the thing is you are putting ideas for future blog posts in that bank. I thought that it was a unique way to look at how you can approach blogging.

Simpleology has something similar called a Dream-catcher where you store your dreams and ideas for whatever it is you want in life rather it be for your business, personal reasons, finances, or family. I used to loosely preach setting aside time on Sunday evening to use it as a brainstorm session and find creative ways to generate ideas for blogging. One methid I have used albeit infrequently is cluster writing. For anyone that may be familiar with mind mapping cluster writing operates in a similar fashion.

You take a centralized idea, circle it and make it the hub of your wheel or cluster. Then you make primary branches or spokes off of that centralized idea and find common things related to it that resonate with you. Then you do the same with the primary spokes and make sub spokes kind of like how you have one domain with many sub domains. So you can take this one step further with the blog bank. Take a jar, large mug, plastic storage container whatever you want and write on the side “Blog Bank” or some other suitable title. After you do this make a hole in the lid big enough to slide a folded up post it note in and top the container. Now your Blog”piggy” Bank is ready to save blog ideas in for future posts. Now I mentioned how you can take cluster writing one step further with the bank. When you feel you are done with as many ideas as you can cluster take a post it or an index card and then write on each one the various ideas you have circled and then stick them in the bank. Another way to look at this is saving ideas for a rainy day in case you have a day you can’t think of anything to write.Simply withdraw an idea and deposit it on paper in the form of a blog post and reap the small dividend of having been able to generate content for that day.

By no means am I saying you have to do this merely it is just an idea to help generate blog ideas so you are not constantly struggling to figure out what to write about.

Great article. i like the blog bank idea. I used to keep my ideas in a draft list of prospective post titles. And sometimes add a few dot points until I got around to actually writing the post.

An extension on your cluster idea is to take a post that has been popular and attracts some good traffic. Then make that the centre of your cluster.

Karen that is a great idea thank you for adding to this. I have a lot of material on this site that I can do that with and generate other posts with. Alex Mandossian if you are aware of who he is talks about re purposing your material to create new material with. This is a practice I need to get into.

Thank you for stopping by and let's not be strangers k :)'s

I love the idea of a blog bank! Personally, I use Google Calendar and try to set up my editorial calendar weekly. I have several different gigs, blogs and columns so that really helps me stay organized. Plus, it gives me the ability to prearrange my SEOs for the week. Great post!! Thanks! :)
