Just a few of My Favorite Android Apps

I have had my DROID phone now for over 6 months and so I feel that is long enough to objectively make observations about what has been working for me and what hasn’t.

First off one feature that I am thankful that is available is the ability to check email anywhere anytime with just the swipe of a finger. You get a notification sound when you have an incoming email so just in case your waiting on that important news of say a clients review of a proposal you submitted to them you don’t have to stay chained to a laptop to be mobile.

Second up is Seesmic for Android. I am not speaking for anyone else when I say that for me this has been the most stable Twitter client for Android for me. I also love it for the fact that if I am tweeting back and forth with someone I don’t have to keep my web based client open as I get a vibration notifier when there is a new reply or direct message. So I can tweet and still get other things done.

I use Facebook for Android enough that I can say that once I figured out how to send mobile uploads to my photo albums it has been a dream to use. It comes in handy when I see something interesting that I want to send a pic of to my friends. I can still add captions as well just like you can with the web based version. facebook-64x64

I am a regular user of 4sq for Android and have come to enjoy it since I figured out how to use it. I used to think that it was a way to tell people that your not home. However, this app has great promise as a social targeting/location based marketing possibility. We all know reviews can make or break a business so in essence 4sq can tell a business owner how popular there place is by how many people check in to it. Now I know this is probably common sense however there are many business owners who still don’t get the positive implications that these social network game style sites can bring to their bottom line.

Gowalla was a little stubborn at first to take on my phone so I took Jim Ogles advice and uninstalled and installed it again and it worked fine. Gowalla takes the check in one step further in that you can give a brief descriptor as to what your doing at the location you are checking in at and you can also take a photo of it. Business owners would be prudent to understand how this works because of the previous factor. If your business is dirty and rundown and a mobile user with Gowalla happens to come in and tell his or her other friends and take a pic chances your not going to get that segments business presently or in the future. On the flip side if you have an awesome atmosphere and a Gowalla user comes in and checks in giving a rave review to his or her friends you will have a super chance at not only having these people as first time customers but also repeat customers.

My Twitter follower @jedchan suggested a calendar app called Jorte` and it has been so easy to use. More on how to use it later as I want to put together a short video to demonstrate to you the features. I do want to say tho the emphasis is on ease of use. twitter-64x64

Last but certainly not least is my gem Auto Mount. I mention it in a previous post where I share how to upload a video with an Android phone. This has been by far the best app I have installed yet as I can simply plug my phone into my PC and then it reads it just like a normal storage device. It truly has been a God send.

I will share with you later what didn’t work so well and a few more favorites.

I provided links so you can go to the app on AndroLib and simply scan the QR code instead of having to waste time typing them into the search field in the app market on your phone.
